Teaching Approach

My students range from age 4 to 85 years of age. I’ll meet you where you are on your musical journey, whether on a professional track or day-one beginner. We learn and make music in a positive environment, always supportive and esteem-building.

In regard to high school students who are serious about a college music major, or a professional track, I have a 100% success rate with my high school students securing college music scholarships, often for full tuition.

Piano Lessons

Piano for all age groups, we can explore one of two ways, depending on your interest:

  • lessons on a traditional classical pedagogy track, including repertoire, technique, memorization, performing, scales and chord theory, OR

  • study of piano chording - for playing by ear or by reading chord symbols / fake book and pop charts.

Singing Lessons

Singing lessons include repertoire of your choice (classical, broadway belt, jazz, country, gospel, pop), vocalises, breathing and vocal health training, sight reading study, foreign language study, song interpretation, and stage presence.

Students preparing for performances and auditions, we set your goals/timeline together, and meet them, for a successful performance. Beginners, I have success in teaching students to sing in tune, match pitch, develop ones’ own personal musical style on piano or voice.

Performance Opportunities and Additional Disciplines

We have both in person and remote group performance evenings, for all interested students to meet, perform, and discuss music in the cheerful, non-judgemental environment we create together.

In voice, piano, or theory lessons, you will be offered additional disciplines to explore, such as music history, music theatre history, audition techniques, music careers exploration, monologue delivery, scene staging, performance nerves/confidence/comfort.

As often as possible, I come to your performances at school or in the community, to cheer you on.
